Grove City Gold Thunderbirds Take Two Titles as Canadian Shield and Columbus Heat Win in Detroit

MIHA's Detroit weekend on October 24–25 had 28 games and three divisions: the 5iveHole Division, the Fusion Division and the Wheel Talk Division. Teams played group games on Saturday and the playoffs on Sunday, and the closest moments came in Sunday's crossover games.

The Grove City Gold Thunderbirds had the best weekend of anyone. Their Fusion Division team won both Saturday games, took the top seed and then beat Envious Fuel to win the championship. Their Wheel Talk Division team won the East group, survived a shootout against LTD 6IXERS in the crossover round and then beat Top Shelf Hockey in the A final to win a second title for Grove City.

In the 5iveHole Division, Canadian Shield won every game. They went through Saturday unbeaten, shut out the Michigan Mad Dogs in the semifinal and beat Motor City Knights in the championship. Motor City earned their spot in the final with a 5–4 semifinal win over the Grove City Thunderbirds, one of the best games of the weekend.

The Wheel Talk Division had plenty of tight games. Midwest Lake Monsters beat Columbus Heat in a Saturday shootout, and Buzz Central won the West group after their own shootout win over LTD 6IXERS. Columbus Heat bounced back on Sunday, winning a one-goal crossover against Detroit Fuel and then the B final against Floss and Sauce. Top Shelf Hockey also beat West winner Buzz Central to reach the A final.

Congratulations to all four champions and thanks to every team that came out. We'll see everyone at the next MIHA weekend in Columbus on November 7–8.
